Author Introduction
Hello, and welcome to 'Chronicles of Man'. I started this project mostly as a proof of ability on my part. I wanted to see if I could write with an audio medium in mind. I had another, far more ambitious audio play that I was working on, but didn't know if I was actually capable of pulling it off in a reasonable manner. That other project is called 'Sea of Night', you'll be able to read about it on this site once I have more available to read.
As for this project, I just wanted to see if I can write for voice. This was my very first project in this vein, and it both excited me and frightened me. I had only the vaguest idea of what I wanted as far as a story was concerned, and it definitely changed on me before I finished it.
The voice actor who narrated this is fellow named Edwin, and you can check out his work or hire him for your own projects over on his Voice123 profile here. I worked with Edwin for a while at a warehouse job. We got along well, and I found him to be a fine person. Finding out that he did voice acting, got my wheels turning. When I started the project, I only saw one of two people narrating it, either myself, or Edwin.
You'll notice in the included scripts, that I have left in my narration notes. You'll also notice that as we get to the later chapters, there are less and less notes. Edwin showed himself to be a better judge of his voice and the character than myself. Once he got into the groove, he was able to add the perfect inflection and emphasis and I felt I had to do very little directing near the end.
You'll notice a change in audio quality between the transition from chapter 3-4. Edwin transitioned to a new audio rig, and given the experimental nature of this project, I didn't feel the need to get him to re-record the first three chapters. I consider it a valuable lesson. I did play with the audio a bit to make the transition less jarring, and to get them as close to parity as I could, but there is still a noticeable improvement in quality from 4 onward. We did attempt a re-record on those chapters, and it made the transition even closer, but still, there is a slight difference, to the keen eared among you.
So as to not spoil anything, I'll save story related comments till the end, in my 'Author's Notes' section.
